Dry needling and acupuncture are common techniques used in manual therapy to treat pain and musculoskeletal dysfunction. With these techniques, acupuncture needles are inserted in and/or around myofascial trigger points within muscles. The needles can help relieve pain by stimulating sensory nerves within injured tissues. The technique are sometimes enhanced by movement of the needle for greater stimulation of nerves and possible breakdown of scar-tissue.
